I was reminded of this song on Thursday night and realized I hadn't done a Thumpin' Thursday for a while. It took me 30 minutes or more to remember the artists' name! LOL Enjoy this oldie from Seals and Croft:
It's fun going back to the good ole days and looking at the music we listened to then. It's a bit hard to type "the good ole days" though. When the baby boomer generation hears that term, it usually means the time of no cars, no tv, no indoor plumbing, etc. Now OUR music is golden oldie material! Goodness -- sometimes it's even been made into elevator music!
I can remember when WMBD Peoria played elevator music, and that's the station we listened to at home. Until mom left the kitchen! Dishes and clean up were done to WIRL, a more contemporary radio station -- unless she came back into the kitchen! Again, I'm sure we were no different then kids of other generations before and since. My kids tried to change the radio channel in my car. And that was okay -- as long as I wasn't in it! :) And my mom did not appreciate the Beatles -- until their music was about 20 years old. Then it was okay! :)
Today's choice goes back a little further than 1969 but is still in the high school era. Lou Christie's Rhapsody in the Rain was banned from WIRL radio because of it's suggestiveness. See wikipedia if you're curious, or just listen to the song. :)
If you lived through or love 60s music, you might enjoy this post. Music has always been a part of my life, like a thread running through it. I can still remember the song that played on the radio when I had morning sickness with my first child -- and even today it tends to make my stomach knot up! I'd play it here, but hey! Even I don't want to hear it again!
Today I'm pulling some Neil Diamond out of the archives and dusting it off a bit. Look at the length of that hair! I can remember our elders' horror at the length of the Beatles' hair. Ha! If they only knew they would soon consider the Beatles "well groomed" LOL. After nearly 40 years I got to go see Neil Diamond in concert last year. He did not disappoint!
Forty years ago this month, a high school in Central Illinois said its goodbye to a group of graduating seniors. It was a big event in our lives. We were excited! Thrilled to have reached this milestone, a little fearful maybe, but positive we were ready to take on the world -- or at least our corner of the universe. I'm sure we were no different than the graduating classes that came before us and after, but we thought we were. We hadn't lived long enough yet to learn how much we didn't know! LOL
We left high school that summer to go on to college, or to work, or into the military. Some of us married early; some not. Most of us now are parents and even grandparents of graduating seniors. Some of us are retired or ready to retire.
So for some crazy reason, I thought it would be fun to look at some of the music from our graduating year. I'll pick one once a week for a while. And here's the first one --
