For Damien!

I have a couple layouts I've been meaning to share.  My grandson gave me some Jolee's embellishments for Christmas, and I used them to create this layout! These berries are in our front yard -- not that the berry bushes are decorative but that spot is the best spot in the yard for the berries!  Damien likes blueberries, and this seemed like the perfect layout for his stickers!  Hope you like it, little dude!

By the way, I'm looking for some fabulous recipes using blueberries.  :)  The only thing I've ever made is blueberry muffins.  While good, the muffin recipe is not enough to use the full harvest from blueberry bushes!  Today I had a cinnamon blueberry scone from Cheesecake Factory that was very good, and I'd love to try that in my own kitchen.  Feel free to share your favorite recipes.

This second layout uses a picture I promised would turn up in a layout. How could I not use it?  Look at the pride of a young man with his snowman?  And then to learn the snowman has a short nose because the builder kept biting off the end of the carrot?  Too precious!

Here's a layout I did about darling grandson and his penchant for costumes and role playing. It's something I find endearing and fascinating at the same time. And he only wants to play good guys, not the villians. He definitely does not like villians! Too cute.

It was a bit crazy here last week. We had snow! Snow that's still on the ground three days later. And we had cold temperatures with blustery winds. That doesn't happen often either! Plus there's always more to do than hours in the day. Added to my February layout-a-day commitment, I prepared for a paper crafters' garage sale that occurred yesterday. Great jun, great people, and I came home with a little cash in my pocket. LOL Then last night after dinner, I finished this layout, and I really like it!

Today there were six of us who went thrift shopping in the Seattle area. I think everyone found a treasure, and I did, too. I bought an old, six paned window, and I have a couple of decorating ideas for it. Should be fun!

My layout tonight was quick and easy. Worked all day and have been working all night trying to check things off my task list. Now that the cold/flu/sinus thing is receding, I need to work hard so I can play this weekend.

This photo was taken by Robert the Retired while I was working at home last week. I think I like it! And I definitely like the hat.

Today we were making barbeque for our family potluck tomorrow . It requires the use of a pressure cooker, and Robert and I were discussing that we only used that thing once every couple years. Then he reminded me that he'd used it just last year for his office potluck to make barbeque. Oh yes! That reminded me of the woman who wanted to change our barbeque recipe, and here's the layout documenting the event!

Funny Story

FYI:  I know it's been a while since I updated this blog -- I wish there were a quick and easy way to update; I'm still searching and will get it figured out eventually!  Now, on to the post!

Robert retired last month.  The dog!  I don't really mean that -- he's a great guy and a great husband, but I am j-e-a-l-o-u-s!  And I was probably a teeny bit resentful because the intention was that we retire at the same time.  I was also attacked by a dose of fear because we hadn't planned on retiring this early.  Still, when I saw the stress his job was causing him, it was crystal clear that the time had come for him.  So he's home now, and he's busy working for me!  :)  He is an always pleasant, generally always smiling, happy man who is willing to do what he can to make our lives easier.  How lucky am I?  Very lucky!  He cooks, he cleans, he shops for groceries, he does laundry, he fixes stuff, he paints, and he's even learning to post on ebay so we can clear clutter (those things that we probably shouldn't have bought in the first place and never use).  That's cool!  In general, he's making this a very positive experience! 

I shared a picture yesterday with a coworker, and she asked me how I had taken a picture showing the back of my head.  I told her that "Robert the Retired" had taken the photo.  We both laughed hard!  So now darling husband has a new name, kinda like Attila the Hun and Zorba the Greek!  Robert the Retired!  Or RTR for short!  In fact, I got such a kick out of it, that I created a layout about it.  Robert laughed about it, and we hope it brings a little laughter your way.

 

P.S.  I hope we have the plan worked out so he doesn't put wool in the dryer 'cause I got a new pair of Momma Ann's handknit socks for my birthday, and I want to continue wearing them.  Just sayin'.

Layout Fun

I was scrapbooking with girlfriends last weekend and decided to create a layout for the My Mind's Eye Blog Challenge 13.  The challenge offered a sketch for inspiration and required that you use the word "hope" in the title.  I finished this sweet layout:

Then I was rifling through my pictures to see what I wanted to scrap next, and I ran across the pictures of Brenna's new puppy.  Laughingly, I showed my friends the photos and said the title of the layout should be "Hope you don't pee on my carpet!"  And then I was challenged to create the layout.  Ha!  I did, and here it is.  Same sketch as inspiration and same word in the title, but so very different!

I'm taking my temperature this morning

Not the physical temperature but the emotional one.  Meaning, "how am I feeling?"  I think this says it all, in a tongue in cheek kinda way!  LOL

Seriously, we had a good Memorial Day weekend despite the rain.  Young Master Damien visited with his grandparents for the weekend, and he told us he had a good time.  We did, too!  Thank goodness his parents have [what I believe is] a healthy [for US] attitude about what goes on at the grandparents' house.  We get to be a bit more flexible on the everyday rules (grandma, soda is sometimes not good for me), and it's quite possible he was a little bit spoiled.  :)   I know those parents work very hard at routines, manners, responsiveness, respect, etc.  Bravo, Krista and Jeff; it shows.  He truly was a pleasure to have around.

Off and runnin'

It's Saturday!  I've been out already this morning and even worked out at the gym before I came home.  It feels great to have the workout behind me!  Woot!

'm off to play for a couple hours but wanted to share a layout I finished this week.

I've actually been having a good time with true scraps recently.  This layout is all scraps except for the button.  The background paper is the throw-away part of a sheet of cardstock alphas!  The alphas are all punched out -- some used, some not.   

Wherever you are and whatever's going on in your life today, find time to do something good for yourself!

Dixie Pieces' "Vampire Romance" kit

Tuesday is sale day for the new Dixie Pieces' kit.  I thought I'd post the kit pic here, and those layouts I completed with the contents.  To see what the Dixie Pieces design team did with the kit, check out the gallery here.  Funny story about this kit.  Brenna picked the name last July when we were at CHA.  With its dark colors, e decided to use it in December.  Who knew it would debut just days after the Twilight movie, New Moon?  LOL

Love this little guy, and I can see he will be the subject of many layouts!  These photos were taken in July when we were able to spend a couple days with him. 

As much as I love dark colors, I do not like the short days and darkness of winter.  November and December days make me long for spring.
